Hey guys,

Sounds like you guys had a good week. Well we would of had a baptism yesterday, but she did not want to go to church. Oh well that is what happens sometimes. Well this week was okay. I have to tell you guys a funny story. Well Friday night about 8 PM we were walking and some kids stopped us. They said something in English. I asked them if they spoke English. They said no. Well then they wanted me to speak in English. So I did. They did not believe me. Me and my comp said I am from the US and I speak English. Well the kids wanted me to speak Portuguese. So I put out a little. They said that I was lying that I spoke English. I thought that was a funny story.

Hey I have an idea for birthday presents. It will cost a little bit but I know you guys will like it. I need to take some money out. How much do I have in my account? It is a plaque with your name. I hope it will be okay. Also I found something else a cow horn thing. It is pretty cool. The reason I am taking out money is so I don’t have to use my debit card a lot. I hope you guys will understand. Hey don’t worry about sending me batteries. I remembered that I have a battery charger in my bag. Hey I think I will be going home in Sept not Aug. Just letting you know for future plans. They usually send you home a week before 2 years.

Well congrats on the b-ball game Jani and Mom. Sounds like Laurels camp was good. Sounds like everyone is doing well at home. Hey please send me a list of movies because Elder Beagles is going home in 3 weeks and wants to know.

Hey this is for you dad. I was walking and I saw 4 people in biking spandex, it reminded me of you guys.

Well Happy B-day dad on Friday, wow 45. Thanks for telling me because I totally forgot how old you were. Hey I have an idea for your b-day present.
Well have a good one. Take care of yourselves. Love you always.

Elder Shelley

Hey mom,
Things are going real well. The language is starting to come real quick. Hey I can’t believe that it is almost the end of Feb. It is so crazy at how time is flying by. Hey it is nice to be able to write you guys in the beginning of the day and still have time to do stuff, and have you guys reply back. Well hopefully this week will be better and we will hopefully get a baptism this week. Well life is going real good. Things are getting better between me and my comp. Well hope everything is going well with you guys. Hey no package yet, I am hoping for Friday. Well this is week three, we have interviews with President on Friday. Well take care. Thanks for all the updates.

Oh Poo!

Sent: Mon, Feb 15, 2010 06:11 AM
Hey guys,
Hey sounds like you guys had a good week. Hey I did buy chicken cordon bleu, but it is not as good as I thought. It was good but not that good. We will have a have it when I get back.

Hey tomorrow will be 5 months here in Brazil. It is crazy. Time is flying by. Hey on Saturday I had a division with Boa Vista, I went with Elder Samuel(American) to Santana. It was fun, Elder Samuel has only one month in Brazil, but I was able to help him. It is nice to be able to understand and talk with the people. Well anyways on our way back to end the division I was walking and I felt something hit my back, yep you guessed it Bird Poo. Well it hit my back right shoulder. Well the bird ate a lot of red something, it left a red stain, but I remembered that I had the Shout, and the stain came right out, Thanks mom. Well that is the funny story this week. Oh I looked up what my comps name means in English. It means mud. Well the first thought was from Garfield. The part when Jon says yep my name is mud. It made me laugh. Well I hope it makes you guys laugh too. Hey last week I was walking by a place and it smelled like when you walk into Pirates, I am really missing Disneyland and just hanging with you guys.

Hey Jani you can give the site to Mr. Beeson so he can keep an eye on how I am doing. I can’t remember if I gave it to him, and Garlick also. If it is not too hard.

Hey this last week I learned a lot about promptings. Well one day it was a little cloudy. I heard a voice say get your umbrella. I did not think much of it. Well it happened the second time, and I still did not listen to it. Well we left our house and started walking and we were a little ways away when it started to rain. Well our clothes were wet, and after that I learned listen to the promptings.

Hey I don’t know about the Jersey, because I will probably be transferred in 5-6 weeks 22 of March. I am thinking about getting the address of the member that wants it and send it too him when I get home. What do you think? I have been getting the letters but not the package, I will either tomorrow because LZ’s have a meeting or 26 when we have Interviews. Hey is the new mission president this year or 2011?

That is cool about the Olympics. Where is it at? Well I will keep Tiffany? in my prayers and her family. Thanks for telling me. Hey could you send some batteries AA in a package sometime. The reason I ask is because I only have 8 left. My comp took some pics of an Elder when we had the conference, and he asks every ward member here if they know him, well not only do I show them the pic well the members go through all my photos. I don’t like it because one the batteries die quick and two I don’t like people going through my photos. What should I do? I don’t want to be rude but it is really annoying me a whole bunch. Well hope you guys have a good week. Things are going better. Keep praying for me. Hey and if you know any good movies that have come out let me know, because another Elder is leaving this ransfer and wants to know. Well take care. Hey I will probably have a new email address. I will find out next week and let you guys now.

The reason is because google and LDS church signed an agreement, so we will probably get new addresses. So when I get it I will let you guys know about it. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Hey Matt you did not tell me that the All-Star game was this last week. Hey it sounds like D-Will did pretty good even thought the East Won. Well have a good one. Love you guys. Have a good day and break from school.

We got mail!!

Dated 1-18-2010
Hey Family,
I hope everything is going well at home. Today is P-day. My comp. is sleeping. As you know it has been a little rough getting along with him. I can see that Heavenly Father is wanting me to learn patience. Well, this week was pretty good. We taught many people, made many contacts. I am really bored. I miss you guys so much. If I could I would have you guys as companions. My comp. does not like to do much on P-day. He likes to sleep. Today he took a long time on the computer emailing and he was checking his face book. I think this next week I am going to go to the zoo with him or do something fun. I love it here in Brazil, but I miss good old America. I miss being home and playing games with you guys. Well everything is going well here. Yes, I still love my comp., even if we don’t agree on a lot of things. I am learning a lot from him. I love my area and the ward. The ward here reminds me of the ward back home. The people love to joke and have fun. I miss you guys but I know that you guys are being taken care of by Heavenly Father and Jesus. Well, keep praying for me and I know I am in the right place in my life. I miss you guys so much, but I love you guys even more than you think. Um grande Abraço!!

Hey Fam,
Hey how are things going? I am doing well. I baptized today after Sacrament meeting. I baptized Evandro, he is 26 years old. He is really smart, he knows some truth and some other things are a little twisted. For example, when we taught about the Holy Ghost he thought you already received it through the belly of your mom, and all we have to do is think for Holy Ghost. We straightened him out and he understands now that we get the Gift of the Holy Ghost after baptism by the laying on of hands. He is really cool. One problem is that he is so attached to his church, some Evangelical. But we baptized him today, it was really good. Well, my comp is asleep, and I am writing you. Hope you guys have a good week.

Love you all!
Elder Shelley

Um Grande Abraço
Sorry, if I don’t write many letters. Don’t have much time. If I can I will write you guys. Love you!!!!

Still in Santana....

Date: Mon, 08 Feb 2010 13:04:17

Hey Fam,
No I did not get transferred I am still here in Santana. I am still with my comp Elder Barros. Hey last week me and Elder Beagles were going to go bowling in the shopping (Mall), but we did not go bowling. He wanted to look at a suit real quick and get cologne. It took quite a bit of time. So sorry guys I don’t know how the bowling is. Well this week was pretty good.

Hey I had a baptism yesterday. We baptized a 14 year old boy named Matheus. It was really cool. Hey and I brought my camera. Hey this week I rode the city bus for the first time. It was horrible. Here is the story. Well early Friday morning we went to the LZ’s house because my comp needed to get a fisha signed and I wanted to get Elder Brown’s info because he was leaving. Well we stayed for a little bit. We had to leave to go to lunch, but my comp wanted to ride the city bus. Well we got to the place and had to wait for the bus it took 40 minutes. Then it finally came and we got on. Well it reminded me of Alaska. I was in the back and there were ''different people'' on. Well it took about another 15 minutes. I decided that we could of walked quicker than taking the bus. Well it was good.

Hey yesterday I was walking and I saw a dog that looked like ALF. The head, because the face. It was really funny. Hey what movies came out before I left and recently, because Elder Beagles is dieing this transfer, he is going home and was asking me but I could not remember.

That is way cool that you guys got to go to a Flash game. Way to go Matt, was she cute? Hey tell Dave and Justin, and Fam I say hi. That is too bad about the Colts. The Saints spanked the pants off of the Colts. Well it is good that you guys are doing well. Hey Matt I had kind of a crappy week too for my mission. Well it is good that you are liking your mission. Well take care and have a good week. YES I BROUGHT MY CAMERA.

First time complimented on my Portuguese....

Sent: Mon, Feb 01, 2010 05:19 AM
Hey Minha Familia,
How is it going? Nope did not have a baptism this week. Well I can’t believe that this is the last week of the transfer. I think I will be transferred, but I will know on Saturday. Hey sorry I forgot my camera, I found a cool pic of Garfield in my area. Hey guess what I looked on the Map of Araçatuba and there is a street named Walt Disney. I thought that was cool. Hey the people that showed up were the mission doctors. One of which was my Branch President in the CTM Presidente Brinton. I also got a pic with him. Hey remember Elder Barbosa-went to the zoo with, I got a pic with him too. Conferencia de Zonas was really good. Hey mom that is good that the activity went well. Hey and by the way it is Pão de Quijo-(pow-gee-k-shoo). Hey that is cool about Thomas, tell him I say Hi. Tell him I give him Um Grande abraço-a big hug.

I can’t believe that you guys bought a tandem kayak. That is so cool. That is cool that Matt got a new bed and stuff. Hey thanks for letting me know about the missionary. NO I don’t think I knew him. Keep praying for me. Hey things are going better with my comp. By the way I want the COLTS to TAKE IT ALL THE WAY. Hey last night I went to the LZ’s house to sleep over, and we played war. I don’t know what it is but everyone gangs up on poor me. I totally lost the game. Hey today after we email we are going to go bowling. I am so excited.

Well it is the same old stuff. WORK WORK WORK. Hey I will know Saturday if I am going to be transferred. I think I will be, I am really hoping to be transferred, but we will see what happens. Well hope you guys have a good day and be safe. Um Grande Abraso.
Elder Shelley

Hey every week we send an email to the president. We tell him how our week has been. How things are going. Well usually he doesn’t respond when I am on, but he just responded and he said that it is very good for him to have a missionary like me. I just wanted to tell you guys that. I just thought it was cool.

Hey tell Matt that I think that the Jazz can do well with out Boozer or Williams. Well I have to tell you something cool that happened this week. Well me and Elder Hunsaker were making a contact and some guys asked where we were from. We said Utah. They said something about Utah Jazz basketball. And guess who they said for a basketball player. They knew John Stockton. I thought that it was a small world.

Hey and guess what some Brazilians when me and my comp were doing a contact with some ladies. They actually said that my Portuges was actually really good, for being out for 5 months. Hey this is the first time that Brazilians have complimented me on my portuges.

Well we confirmed Evandro a member. It was a crazy story. First me and Andre-a member we were on a division to get people, well we went to Evandro’s house and a lady said that he did not live there anymore. So we went to get another Investigator, but he was not there. So we went back to Evandro’s house to see if he happened to be there, he wasn’t, so we went to the church. We looked in one of the rooms, and he was there. I was so relieved that he was there. It was a really good feeling. Well anyways everything is going well. I am really loving the mission. Tell anyone that says hi to me tell them I say hi back. I really hope that I get transferred because I just want to go to a different area. I love my area I am in right now, but I am hoping for change. Well things are going a little better with my comp. It was a little rough at the beginning, but things are going well. Oh last night at the LZ’s house I slept in a hammock. I did not like it, it hurt my feet and my neck was in a weird position, but it was fun. We played WAR. It was sort of fun. I don’t know why but everyone likes to gang up on poor Elder Shelley. Well hopefully we are going bowling today. I know we are going to play WAR with some other missionaries. Well have a good week and keep praying for me. Take care.
UM GRANDE ABRASO.
